The copper braided tin extractor is a tool used in electronics to remove excess tin from soldering points, for example when desoldering electronic components. It is made of thin copper wires braided together in the form of a tape.
Application:
- Desoldering of components: Facilitates the removal of tin from soldering points, e.g. when replacing electronic components.
- Repairing soldering errors: Removes excess tin that could cause a short circuit.
- Cleaning of solder fields: Useful before re-soldering to remove residual old tin.
How to use copper braid:
- Make sure the soldering iron is warmed up (usually a temperature of around 300°C is adequate).
- If the braid does not have factory flux, you can add a small amount of flux to its surface to improve heat conduction and tin absorption.
- Place the braid on the soldering point from which you want to remove the tin.
- Touch the heated tip of the soldering iron to the braid at the point of contact with the tin.
- When exposed to heat, the tin will begin to melt and soak into the braid due to the capillary effect.
- When the tin has been absorbed, remove the braid and soldering iron at the same time to avoid overheating the surface.
- Cut off the used part of the braid and continue working if necessary.
